Jungle Safaris in Ranthambhore are available in two types of vehicles – Jeeps, which have six seats, and Canters, which have 20 seats. One shift is available in the morning, while the other shift is available in the afternoon for Jungle Safari in Ranthambhore. 

Safari Vehicle allocation for tourism in Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve

In Ranthambhore, there are a limited number of vehicles available for jungle safaris. In each safari zone of Ranthambhore, the Forest Department permits only a limited number of jeeps and canters. Zones 1-10 of the Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve allow a total of 140 safari vehicles. The canters will be sent from zones 1 to 4 and the jeeps from zones 5 to 8. There are 7 canters per safari zone, 6 jeeps per safari zone, and 10 jeeps per safari zone. Zones 7 and 8 of Ranthambhore do not allow canters due to steep climbs and narrow paths. Therefore, each zone 7 and zone 8 are allocated 9 Jeeps. Special category quotas are allocated to Jeeps only in zones 1 to 5. As part of the Ranthambhore safari, five Jeeps will be available for full- and half-day trips. Zone 1 to 6 is allotted 20 Jeeps with specific amounts under the Tatkal quota. Ranthambhore’s Safari Shifts are thus allocated 140 vehicles, resulting in a total of 140 vehicles per shift.

The Forest Department currently registers 192 guides in Ranthambhore, of which 140 are nature guides and 52 are EDC guides. The guides are all locals in Ranthambhore who know the park’s wild animals and their behaviour well. It is recommended to book a safari, especially a jeep safari, before arriving in Ranthambhore since the park is visited by many wildlife lovers.

Ranthambhore National Park timings for jungle safaris

During the different seasons, Jungle Safari in Ranthambhore National Park operates at different times. As a result of the shorter daylight hours in winter, the park entry time in the morning is later and the park exit time in the evening is earlier. Sunrise and sunset usually determine when the park gates open and close for jungle safaris.

Jungle safaris begin in Ranthambhore National Park about half an hour after sunrise and close about half an hour before sunset. Ranthambhore National Park’s Jungle Safari entry and exit times change with the time of sunrise and sunset. It takes three to three and a half hours to complete a jungle safari in Ranthambhore National Park.

From 1st October, Ranthambhore National Park will be open to tourists for jungle safaris. Jungle safaris are offered in the morning and afternoon from 7.30 am to 10.30 am.

Between November and January, Ranthambhore National Park operates morning safaris from 7 am to 10.30 am and evening safaris from 2 pm to 5.30 pm.

Safaris are offered from 6.30 am to 10 am in February and 2.30 to 6 pm in March.

There will be jungle safaris available from 6 a.m. to 9.30 a.m., as well as afternoon safaris from 3 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., from 1 April to 15 May.

Between 15 May and 30 June, the National Park is open for jungle safaris from 6 am to 9.30 am in the morning and from 3.30 pm to 7 pm in the afternoon.

An Important Note for Ranthambhore Jungle Safaris

  • It is mandatory to present proof of identity in order to enter the park.
  • Visitors may not be notified in advance if the park is closed.
  • We need to know at least three months in advance if you want to book the safari. Bookings for canters and gypsys are made well in advance, and visitors are advised to book their safaris, especially jeep safaris, well in advance.
  • At least 60 days in advance, we need to know the name and passport number of a foreign tourist and the name and ID details of an Indian visitor.
  • In addition, we need to know the date, time, and the type of safari you would like to do, such as in the morning, afternoon, or both.
  • Before 15 minutes of the scheduled safari time, you are required to report for boarding the Gypsy / Canter.
  • We need advance payment, which is non-refundable, in order to confirm a safari. Plus, there are only 14 Jeeps allowed in Ranthambhore, and 6 guests sit in one Jeep at a time, while the rest travel in canters, which are open safari buses.
  • It is not possible to resell or change reserved seats.
  • Bookings cannot be refunded/cancelled once they have been confirmed.
  • The new policies will be communicated to you and will apply to all future bookings.
